The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has formally opposed the Chip Security Act, arguing the proposed legislation would impose untested, impractical security mandates that could undermine global trust in U.S. semiconductor technology.

In a statement, SIA President and CEO John Neuffer emphasized that member companies "fully comply with export control regulations" and strongly oppose technology diversion and misuse. However, the association warned against "one-size-fits-all" requirements mandating complex, costly, and unverified security features.

"Rushed legislation requiring complex, expensive, and unproven security capabilities would undermine trust in American semiconductor technology, impede AI technology exports, and weaken U.S. global leadership and industrial competitiveness," Neuffer stated.

The SIA expressed willingness to collaborate with Congress on effective risk management solutions while maintaining America's central role in the global AI ecosystem. Member companies continue working with government and law enforcement to prevent product diversion and misuse through existing frameworks.

ICgoodFind : SIA's opposition highlights industry pushback against prescriptive regulation. The semiconductor sector recognizes security's importance but warns that rigid, untested mandates could backfire—eroding competitiveness while failing to achieve intended safeguards. A calibrated, collaborative approach remains essential.
